As well as writing two books A Girl's Guide to Predators and A Girl's Guide to the Criminal Mind, Alison Summers has written for magazines and newspapers including Vogue, The Times (London) The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, The National Times, The Bulletin and The Sydney Morning Herald. She is also a fiction editor. Several books she edited have gone on to win prestigious awards. Among these awards were two Booker Prizes, two Commonwealth Prizes, the Miles Franklin award and several state literary prizes. She has worked in film as a script editor (e.g. Until the End of the World by Wim Wenders) and in theatre as a dramaturg for leading theatre companies.

Her first book, A Girl's Guide to Predators, was published by Pan MacMillan in 2010. It advised readers on how to recognize the behavior patterns of narcissists, stalkers, liars, con artists and psychopaths. An updated version will be made available in July 2020.

Her second book, A Girl’s Guide to the Criminal Mind, was published in 2016 by Kellow Press in New York City. The author spent several years researching what leading criminal profilers and forensic psychiatrists knew about the patterns of behavior of sexual predators, and she condensed their discoveries into a highly readable guide that advises women and girls on the most effective tactics to protect themselves at home and abroad, and how to escape a variety of dangerous scenarios.
